Clarifications

  • I like poems that:
    • Have a definite rhythm
    • Use natural words in natural order
    • Have comprehensible and interesting content
    • Use vivid diction and imagery
    • Have a strong ending
  •  Rhyme, if well done, is a big plus.

  • I don’t believe in prose poetry.
  • I prefer grief to grievance, Confucius to Aristotle, and Millay to Bishop.
  • I don’t like poems about writing poems, or poems lamenting the sorry state of the poetry world.
  • Come as you are.
