Bruce Bennett

That Song

How much do I remember?
I do recall the song,
and how it played and played and played
and played the whole day long.

And what had barely started,
and what still lay ahead,
and what we’d thought and hoped and dreamed,
and what occurred instead.

That was a long long time ago.
So much has flowed between.
Things happened to us, good and bad.
We didn’t know what they’d mean.

Things happened to us. We went on,
then parted. Right or wrong,
that was a long long time ago.
But I recall the song.
