“Sweet Love, Renew Thy Force”
“… while opening a delicious dark chocolate bar, I was
delighted to find a WS Sonnet….”
-- from a friend’s email
A Shakespeare Sonnet with a chocolate bar.
How fun! How sweet! You get to chew and think.
The luscious chocolate only goes so far,
But as you savor it you’re on the brink
Of much much more! A world of love and loss
And longing, made transcendent by the Bard.
For just an instant, all the dreck and dross
Of your dull common life, of all that’s marred
And missed, is magically removed. You chew
And are transported. Everything feels right
For just that moment. All the world is new
And brave, and so are you. But then, that bite
Is gone. You gaze around. There’s no more Will.
You’ve just the wrapper. It’s the old world still.
