Night Thoughts
The romance that I savored ended badly.
That “job success” turned out to be a bust.
The friend I loved and trusted once betrayed me,
While countless dreams and joys dissolved to dust.
The poem I thought was brilliant got rejected.
The dress I bought was stunning till it tore.
Our dream house sadly proved to be infested
With roaches camping on our kitchen floor.
At night I lie awake and summon memories,
But every happy one is somehow tainted:
The honeymoon disrupted by our families,
The room that turned out ugly that we painted. . .
Oh, stop! Life wasn’t perfect, but so what?
That dog we loved so dearly was a mutt.
