Ambition
When you have caught ambition on a line
and pulled it in and put it in a bucket —
when you have reached into its gasping mouth
and cut your thumb in pulling out your hook —
when you have scaled ambition’s silver sides
and plucked its eyes and set it in a pan
over high heat —
Remember, there’s no getting back your bait.
