Robert Donohue

Axl

To have it back a little as it was
He’s shed his later image as recluse,
And sobered up, he has declared a truce
With his old foes, like every rock star does.
Together they will go on tour, because,
Having endured a lifetime of abuse,
When offered to the fans without excuse,
The fans believe them worthy of the buzz.

If once he would exhort us to destroy
This sentiment now verges on the cloy,
His scream becoming something of a whine,
But let him have his autumn, and enjoy
The fruits he brings to us in his decline,
A harvest that’s half rotten on the vine.

Robert Donohue’s poetry has appeared in Aprosexia Lit, Dualis, and MODieval. He is a content reader for Still Here Magazine and lives on Long Island, NY.
